As the seasons start to change so does our mindset. That’s why fall is one of the best times for self-reflection and starting a daily gratitude journal.

Starting a daily gratitude journal in fall will help you beat the rainy-day blues. It can also keep you motivated to continue working on your goals.

Having an attitude of gratitude is an important mindset when it comes to achieving your goals. And just life in general.

When we feel grateful for what we have, we’re happier and more excited about life.

It gives us a surge of energy.

This leads to us being excited and motivated to work on our goals.

And if you believe in manifesting, which I do, then being grateful is a key component to manifesting your dreams.

Having a daily gratitude journal and using gratitude journal prompts is a great way to shift your mindset into being more grateful.

Ready to change your mindset into an attitude of gratitude with a daily gratitude exercise? Let’s dive in!

How to Start a Daily Gratitude Journal

Step 1. Pick a Consistent Time Every Day

Having a predictable time every day to work on your gratitude journal prompts will help you stay consistent in this exercise.

It will start to become a habit when you use the same time frame every day.

Pick a time when you will be uninterrupted and have no distractions. This could be anytime of the day or night.

Put a reminder in your phone so you know every day at this time you need to show up to your daily gratitude exercise.

I’m personally a night writer. I love how quiet it is when the rest of the world is asleep.

Give yourself enough time for this daily gratitude exercise. You don’t want to rush through it and miss out on all the goodness.

Step 2. Gather Your Supplies

This is my favorite part. I’m a stationary girl and love using fun notebooks and high-quality pens for my journaling.

There’s no science behind this, but I do think it’s important to use quality materials for your journaling. It makes it more enjoyable, and I think it helps signal to your brain that you’re taking this seriously.

I love these notebooks from Paper Source because not only are they super cute, but you can also personalize them, which is a nice touch.

I’m currently using their adorable donut notebook that I personalized for my blog goal setting.

Paper Source also has lots of fun journaling stickers to make your journal even more personal to you.

For pens I love these ones from Amazon. I use them to write everything. They just write so smoothly, I love them!

There might not be science behind high-quality writing material, but there is science behind writing by hand versus typing.

Writing things by hand helps lock it into your brain more and makes more of an impact on you.

Place your journal somewhere where you’ll see it often. This will help to remind you to do your daily gratitude journaling.

It will also give you a boost of happiness and gratefulness when you see it, because of all the wonderful things you’ve written down in it.

Step 3. Use Gratitude Journal Prompts

Now that you have a consistent time set aside for your journaling and your supplies, it’s time to pick your prompt for the day.

Using gratitude journal prompts is a great way to dive deeper into self-exploration.

Instead of just writing what you’re thankful for today (although I do this too) journal prompts allow you to expand your thoughts and increase your attitude of gratitude.

They help you to push yourself a little bit and think outside the box.

Be specific when you write instead of generic. Really think about the journal prompts and give yourself time to ponder them.

Every day, pick a journal prompt from the list provided below.

Or if it’s easier you can also use a guided gratitude journal from Amazon, or I also love this one from Paper Source.

This one from Amazon is great because it doesn’t require too much time. It’s the perfect way to dip your toe into the gratitude journal waters.

Step 4. Bonus Prompt

This bonus prompt is meant specifically for keeping you motivated to achieve your goals.

It’s based off the three blessings gratitude practice.

At the end of your gratitude journal practice, write down in one to two sentences what you did today to get closer to your dream life and why you’re grateful you did it.

It can be anything big or small. Just one thing you did that day to get closer to achieving your big goals and why you’re grateful you did it.

Again, it doesn’t have to be a lot, just one to two sentences to end your gratitude practice with feeling good about achieving your goals.

Step 5. Take Time After to Let it Sink in

Give yourself a few minutes after closing your journal and capping your pen to let your words sink in.

Be still in the moment and feel the positive effects of being more grateful wash over you.

Close your eyes and smile to yourself and just say “I am grateful.” This can be said out loud or in your head.

Also give yourself a little high five for showing up to your daily gratitude exercise today!

Now that you have your custom journal from Paper Source, a smooth writing pen, and a willingness to start a daily gratitude practice, let’s get to the prompts!
