Having a grateful heart is probably one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Having a gratitude practice is the best way to have a grateful heart and more self-confidence.

Incorporating a daily gratitude practice can help you sleep better, increase your self-esteem, lead to better physical and mental health, have more satisfaction with life, and enhance your relationships. There have been several studies done on the real effects of using a gratitude practice and the results speak for themselves.

While sleeping better, having more resilience, being more satisfied with life, and having better relationships are all powerful reasons to start a daily gratitude practice, it could also help you increase your confidence.

In my meditation training, I learned about a gratitude practice I’d never encountered before. My teacher, Caroline Stewart, explained the three blessings gratitude practice.

She explained how having more gratitude leads to more optimistic feelings which can help calm our brain’s stress responses. This leads us to a clearer mind that can stay calm in stressful situations and can improve our meditation experience.

She also explained how gratitude trains our brains to think more positively and how overtime our negative thoughts will get replaced with more optimistic ones. Meaning it can help us think more positively about ourselves and help silence those self-doubt thoughts that hold us back and leave us feeling less-than.

Three Blessings Gratitude Practice to Build Confidence

Are you ready to learn the gratitude practice that can help you think more positively about yourself and improve your overall confidence? If you currently deal with low self-confidence, this might be a bit of challenge for you, but that’s fantastic! Challenging ourselves is one of the best ways to build more confidence and enhance our growth mindset.

The Three Blessings Gratitude Practice works like this:

1. Everyday (or as often as you can) list three blessings from your day. They can be anything from a delicious cup of coffee to a comforting conversation with a friend, or your dog’s tail wagging.

2. For each blessing ask yourself and write down:

    • How did this blessing make you feel? Try to dive deeper than just “happy”. Think about how you really felt in the moment. Were you rejuvenated, motivated, excited, comforted, curious, calm, hopeful, amused, etc?
    • Now for the question that might be tricky if you struggle with giving yourself credit. Part of being confident though is realizing you have the power to create and influence your own life. So, ask yourself, why did this blessing happen? How did you take part in the making of it?

If one of your blessings for the day is a yummy cup of coffee, maybe it made you feel more hopeful for the day ahead and gave you the energy and motivation to take on an upcoming obstacle. Why did this blessing happen? Did you go to your favorite little coffee shop on the corner, or did you brew it yourself? Did you put it in your favorite mug? Did you order the perfect drink?

The barista might have made the coffee, or the coffee bean company roasted delicious coffee beans. But you made the decision to go to that coffee shop or purchase those beans and brew them in the best way.

This practice can help you to start feeling more confident in the decisions you make. You can start to trust yourself and your decision-making abilities. You made a series of choices that led to a blessing in your day.

All of this over one cup of coffee. This practice does not have to be about large, life-altering things like a new job or a vacation home. It can be as simple as reading an entertaining book or a stack of chocolate chip pancakes with syrup.

You will start to learn to take more responsibility for your life. Your confidence will start to grow as you see how every day the things you’re grateful for wouldn’t have happened without you or your decisions.

I’ll share one of my recent personal blessings:

One of my blessings for the day was the kawaii drawing workshop.

The workshop made me feel hopeful I can become better at drawing. It inspired me to keep learning and practicing. It also made me feel excited about my future progress. And I just had a lot of fun with it.

This blessing happened not only because Tatyana Deniz hosted the workshop, but because I clicked on the Instagram ad for the workshop. I also made time for the workshop recording in my day when I knew I wouldn’t be interrupted. I followed the instructions and gave myself space to not get it right the first time. I allowed myself to have fun with it.

Even though I’m extremely grateful for Tatyana Deniz for hosting the workshop and all the working parts and people that helped put it together, I can also be grateful for myself for making the decision to click on the ad and follow through with it.

Making a decision that led to something bringing me a lot of joy and putting myself out there in a challenging new space has already increased my confidence. It’s enhanced my growth mindset which is the most important aspect of having more confidence.

I never thought I could be good at drawing, but thanks to a decision I made for myself I am now already realizing I can be great at it! I’m not stuck with being a bad drawer, I am now growing into being an amazing artist. All thanks to series of choices I made. I’ll sing my praises on this all day long.

You should be singing your praises also!

See how it’s okay to give yourself credit and kudos for how you brought the blessing into your life.

You’re not stuck with always doubting yourself or giving everyone else the credit. You can grow into the person who believes in themselves and confidently trusts themselves and their decisions.

Give the three blessings gratitude practice a try today. While I strongly encourage you to do all three blessings, if that’s too much for you to start then just try one or two. Overtime you’ll start to feel more empowered and will feel more comfortable doing all three. Challenge yourself to stick with this practice for at least 30 days.
